Easymeeting – Prototyping Ubiquitous Computing in Offices

چکیده
This paper presents an intuitive, easy-to-use prototype system that supports users in booking and managing meeting rooms based on Near Field Communication (NFC) technology. The prototype was designed to evaluate an NFC application for smart office solutions. We used our prototype to conduct a study with 37 participants in two organizations. The evaluation was based on structured interviews and included a qualitative and quantitative part. The overall impression of the users was positive and NFC regarded as easy to use. The system was also considered useful for unobtrusively fulfilling tasks that arise during meetings. Based on this early prototype we extract findings for smart office applications.

In today's competitive environment, one of the new tools in the field ofinformation technology is business or organizational dashboards that are as abackup in the process of strategic management of organizations. The aim ofthis study is building a prototype of a hospital dashboard on the principles andguidelines of dashboards and evaluating it based on End UserComputing Satisfaction (EUCS). The...
متن کاملAutomatic Partitioning: A Promising Approach to Prototyping Ubiquitous Computing Applications
One of the main challenges facing ubiquitous computing research and development is the difficulty of writing software for complex, heterogeneous distributed applications. In this paper, we evaluate automatic application partitioning as an approach to rapid prototyping of ubiquitous computing systems. Our approach allows developers to largely ignore distribution issues when developing their appl...
متن کاملA compact cluster computer with embedded CPUs and its application to rapid prototyping of fingerprint verification system
This paper presents a compact cluster computer, called “UCC (Ubiquitous Computing Cluster)”, which provides a cost-effective prototyping environment for design and test of ubiquitous computing applications. We achieve extremely small size, low power consumption and low cost by employing COTS (Commercial Off-The-Shelf) embedded CPUs. We also present an application of UCC to fingerprint verificat...
متن کاملIntelligent Agents Meet the Semantic Web in Smart Spaces
Pervasive computing (sometimes called ubiquitous computing) is a vision of our future computing lifestyle in which computer systems seamlessly integrate into our everyday lives, providing services and information in an “anywhere, anytime” fashion. Working toward this vision, researchers have developed a wide variety of pervasive computing applications and infrastructures. Pineau and colleagues,...
متن کاملPrototyping Smart Objects for Ubiquitous Computing
Technology enabling us to augment physical objects with electronics and thereby making them ’smart’ is readily available. What could keep us from building smart objects? This paper keeps in perspective current development and technologies with a focus on ubiquitous computing appliances. The primary contribution of this work is the identification of issues related to prototyping hardand software...
